2021-Day 3 Are You Still In?
Day 3, this is when the motivation starts to disappear. Let's talk about motivation.
One of the most common questions that I am asked is: “how do you find the motivation”. The answer is I DON’T. I regularly wake up with NO motivation, even after 19 months of living a healthy active lifestyle, I still struggle with motivation. It took me 43 years to figure out the secret to living an active lifestyle. What I am about to tell you is honestly the secret sauce. Do it even when you have no motivation. Easier said than done? Totally, 100% easier said than done.
But I think I have a trick that will really help all of you.
Let me use yesterday as an example. Yesterday was so busy, I had cleaning to do, and video’s to record, and meals to cook, and I had to be at my mother’s for a movie night by 6:30pm. I was very low energy, still very sluggish from the holiday food and drinks, I had no motivation to workout, I mean ZERO.
So what did I do? I got on the treadmill and said to myself, I’m just going to walk, I’m going to walk for 30 minutes because that is what I committed to. No pressure, no calorie burning goal, no distance goal, just walking, and I mean really slowly. I started my walk at 0 incline with my speed at 3.0. I found some motivation as my favourite songs came on, and ran for a few minutes here and there, but most of the time I just walked.
Here is the secret sauce. Are you ready for it?
The “bad” days, when you only walk, or move really slowly. Those are the most important days. Those are the days that actually count the most. It took me 12 months to figure that out. Why do they count the most? Because they keep your routine going. The keep building your healthy habit of moving your body.
Think about it, when you miss a day, does it not often turn into 2 days? Then 3 days? Then maybe a week? Then maybe you just quit all together?
Getting up and doing it, even if it’s very slow… keeps you accountable, keeps you track, and most importantly it ensures you don’t quit.
So, next time you just can’t find the motivation, or you just don’t have it in you. Do something. Anything. Even if it’s as basic as walking around the block a few times. Just keep it going.
