Week 2 New Year Resolutions
How many New Year resolutions have you made in your life? How many have you actually kept?
Do you know what my answer is? 0
Up until 2020, I always made really big plans, I would prepare the entire month of December to start whatever New Year resolution I had come up with. I would start with ALL the motivation in the world, I would be sooooooo good for about 1-2 weeks. Then guess what?
I would screw it up. Let me give you an example.
The year was 2018… (this sounds like the beginning of a movie LOL). December rolled around and I started my planning, this was going to be THE YEAR. I was finally going to start a diet and finish it. The diet of choice for 2019 was going to be…. The 1200 calorie diet. So throughout the month of December I spent hours upon hours creating meal plans, I downloaded carb manager as an app to track my calories. By the time December 31st, 2018 rolled around, I was SUPER READY for the next day to finally start my diet. After way to much wine on New Year’s eve, I woke up with a bit of headache, and ALL the motivation, ready to take on my New Year’s resolution. Like every other year, I started off really really strong, was I hungry all the time, YES! Was I thinking about food all day long, YES! But somehow, someway, I thought, I’ve got this. I’m going to finally commit to this resolution.
How long do you think I stuck with my resolution?
3 weeks. LOL The hardest 3 weeks of my life!! I swore that was the last New Year resolution I was ever going to make.
What I decided in that moment was: instead of making resolutions every New Year, I was going to review my goals and set a new one. One I knew was realistic and achievable. But I would pick only 1. So it went like this: I picked one goal AND I commit to the daily activities that I clearly outlined that would eventually lead me to achieve the goal that I decided on.
The GOAL this year is: Create a healthy relationship with food.
Daily Activities: Tracking my calories every day for the month of January so I can get a sense of how much I am eating. Eat only when I am hungry and journal about my ups and downs on this journey. Commit to daily intermittent fasting.
By committing to daily activities rather than the end goal, it seems more realistic and way more achievable.
All this to say, I am done with New Year resolutions, and I am ALL IN for changes to my daily habits.
How do you handle New Year resoltions?
